What are the Meanings of Capture?

Capture is the process and the result of capturing: trapping, apprehending, detaining, locking up, or imprisoning. The term is often used in relation to the arrest of a criminal by the security forces. See ABBREVIATIONFINDER.ORG for abbreviations related to Capture.

For example: “After an extensive persecution, the police managed to capture the assailant”, “The fugitive has a warrant for his arrest ordered by a federal judge”, “I worked five years to obtain the capture of this drug trafficker”.

The idea of capture can be linked to various police and legal notions. If a police officer observes a person committing a crime, they can capture them. A judge, for his part, can order the arrest of an individual for various reasons. In each case, the capture can refer to specific situations: the capture can be an apprehension, an arrest or an imprisonment, to name a few possibilities.

In the field of computing, the image that is generated to store what is being displayed on the screen of a computer (computer) or other device is known as a screenshot. This screenshot is a kind of “photograph” of what was exposed.

For a screen capture to be possible, two essential parts of the process are necessary: the physical component, which in this case is the graphics card, and the logical component, the algorithm programmed to allow the user to obtain a copy of the images that you are viewing on screen and save it for later use.

Although current computing allows us to work in environments endowed with great dynamism, with endless interactive elements and a high level of animation, devices such as computers and telephones show us many frames per second that generate the illusion of images in movement, just as the first projectors of the last century did (saving the great technological differences between both media).

In other words, the screen “capture” is nothing more than the action of storing a still image that was already in the memory of the device. In this area there is another concept that also uses the term capture, although in this case for video; here the path forks, as this can be done with a program or with external equipment.

The video capture is one of the processes most commonly used today by specialists and fans of the world of the game, since they can have a replica of a game session that can then examine how often want to evaluate issues such as resolution to which the engine renders the graphics, the visual effects it uses, the fluidity it is capable of offering and the breadth of color.

When using an external device, the process could be compared to filming on a screen, although in this case the resulting image is perfect, as there is no external interference. One of the most common configurations is to connect the cable that would normally go to the monitor into the capture box, and then take another cable from there to finally send the video to the monitor. The best equipment is often very expensive, as it must have the technology to record extremely high quality video without loss.

Catching a fish, on the other hand, is the goal of fishing. In some cases the fishing is sport and the specimen is then returned to the water. When hunting, the capture of an animal usually implies its death: “I fought for two hours to capture this shark”, “The authorities recalled that the capture of foxes is prohibited in the national park”, “Juan almost achieved his first catch in the lake, but finally the fish fled ”.
