Tuvalu is an island nation in Oceania, located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The country consists of a few minuscule atolls. It is Oceania’s smallest island nation after Nauru, and the fourth smallest country in the world. In addition, the second-small country is measured by population. The country has 12,000 inhabitants. See Tuvalu population density. The capital is Funafuti.

According to ABBREVIATIONFINDER, Tuvalu is a series of atolls in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. To the north is Kiribati, to the southwest is Vanuatu and to the south is Fiji. The capital Funafuti is located on the atoll of the same name and has 4,500 inhabitants. The highest point is 4 meters above sea level. During major storms, the entire country can be submerged.

The country came under British influence towards the end of the 19th century, and was part of the country as a colony. In 1978 Tuvalu became independent from the United Kingdom, and is economically underdeveloped with an income of $1,600 per inhabitant. The only good jobs are in the government, the rest of the population lives from subsistence agriculture. There are no raw materials and there is often a shortage of water.

Road Network

A road network is virtually non-existent. Most atolls are so small that there is barely enough for one street of houses. There is only 8 kilometers of road in Tuvalu, mostly streets in the capital Funafuti. These roads were asphalted around 2002. You drive on the left, but car traffic is very limited due to the short distances. There are ferry services between some atolls.
