According to andyeducation, Morocco’s educational system is governed by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEVT), which is responsible for setting educational policy, regulating curricula, and administering public schools. While the government provides free primary and secondary education to all citizens, there are a variety of private schools available as well. The educational system in Morocco has been shaped by various cultural influences including French, Berber, Islamic and Arab culture. Primary education in Morocco is compulsory for all children aged 6-12 and consists of six grades (grades 1-6). Primary school provides students with basic education in math, science, language arts and other subjects. Upon completion of primary school students can choose to continue their studies at a secondary school or enroll in a vocational or technical program. Secondary schooling in Morocco consists of three grades (grades 7-9) for general studies and two grades (grades 10-11) for specialized studies such as engineering or medicine. Secondary school provides students with more specialized education focused on preparing them for higher education or employment opportunities. Admission into universities requires successful completion of secondary school exams while admission into specialized institutions requires successful completion of exams administered by the MEVT. Higher education in Morocco consists primarily of public universities which offer diplomas or certificates in specific fields such as business administration or computer science. In addition to traditional university programs there are also several private post-secondary institutions such as Al Akhawayn University which offers programs in engineering; the International University Of Rabat which offers programs in business management; and the American University Of Marrakesh which offers courses in international relations and diplomacy. Overall, Morocco’s educational system provides citizens with quality educational opportunities throughout their academic lives allowing them to gain knowledge that will help them succeed in their chosen career paths upon completion of their studies thanks largely due to initiatives implemented by the government aimed at improving student performance ensuring that all individuals have access to quality education.
