According to andyeducation, Montenegro’s educational system is based on the European Union (EU) standards and provides free public education to all citizens of the country. The government of Montenegro has made it a priority to ensure that all citizens have access to quality education regardless of socio-economic background or location within the country. Primary school in Montenegro consists of eight grades (grades 1-8) and is compulsory for all children aged 6-14. Primary school provides students with a basic education in math, science, language, physical education and other subjects. Secondary schooling in Montenegro consists of four grades (grades 9-12) and is also compulsory for all students aged 14-18. Secondary schools provide students with a more specialized education focused on preparing them for higher education or employment opportunities. Higher education in Montenegro follows the EU system where students can choose from a variety of universities or specialized institutions offering diplomas or certificates in specific fields such as business administration or computer science. Admission into universities requires successful completion of secondary school exams while admission into specialized institutions requires successful completion of exams administered by the Ministry of Education and Science (MES). In addition to traditional university programs there are also several private post-secondary institutions such as the University Of Montenegro which offers programs in engineering; the University Of Arts And Culture which offers programs in arts and culture; and the Institute Of Management And Entrepreneurship which offers courses in business management and entrepreneurship. Overall, Montenegro’s educational system provides citizens with quality educational opportunities throughout their academic lives allowing them to gain knowledge that will help them succeed in their chosen career paths upon completion of their studies thanks largely due to initiatives implemented by the government aimed at improving student performance ensuring that all individuals have access to quality education regardless of socio-economic background or location within the country.
