According to andyeducation, the educational system in Indonesia is organized into three levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary. Primary education starts at the age of six and lasts for six years. During this period, students are taught basic subjects such as mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies. Secondary education follows primary education and lasts for three years. This level is divided into two stages: lower secondary (grades seven to nine) and upper secondary (grades ten to twelve). During these years, students are introduced to more specialized subjects such as history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, economics and foreign languages. At the end of upper secondary school, students have the opportunity to take a national examination which is required for admission into tertiary education. Tertiary education consists of diploma or degree programs offered by universities or other higher learning institutions. In order to qualify for admission into a university program in Indonesia one must have completed their upper secondary school with good grades and a high score on the national exam. Programs offered at the tertiary level usually include courses such as business administration, engineering studies or medical sciences. See educationvv for Indonesia educational systems.
